Currently September Vol. 2

Wow, I can't believe that Fall is here!  And when I say here, I mean really here.  We have had many cool days which is unusual for our area.  This time of year, the weather is usually in the high 90s and everything would normally still feel like summer.  I'm beginning to wonder if we will have a true fall season this year.

Looking back over my last few posts, you can probably tell how much I love summer.  Summer is such a great time of year for me and I will truly miss it, but I know that there is a time and place for everything and I must embrace Fall with all its glory.

But enough of that, lets see what I've been up to lately.

Currently...

Spending:  Time with my family and celebrating the first birthday of this little angel.  Happy Birthday Ari!   You are so loved!
.

Attending:  2nd Sunday on King.  I finally made it.  It was on my bucket list this spring and I finally made it before summer was officially over.  (Sorry for going there again.)  :)  Just like the name says, every second Sunday of the month, King St. shuts down to allow everyone to walk the street and enjoy outside dining, shopping and live entertainment.

Listening to:  Live Reggae music.  From jazzy to hip hop, reggae can be sung so many ways.  The Music Farm was live that night and a treat for everyone in attendance.

What are you currently up to?  Anything exciting lately?  Would love for you to share.

This Summer I...

Now that school has begun, I'm starting to run low on ideas for future blog post.  I ran across Coffee Chat with Rory Bore from one of the many linkys I link up with and decided to join in on the fun!  This week's prompt is 'This Summer I...' so backtrack with me on my summer journey.

This Summer I...

*Sent my son off to NYC to venture through the city on his own.  He had a great summer interning with VH1 Save The Music.

*Attended the wedding of two close friends/coworkers.  A treat for all that attended.

*Traveled the country road.

*Witnessed my little town make Guinness Book history for having the World's Largest Cup of Sweet Tea.  Rain didn't keep us from reaching our goal. I claim Charleston, but my address says Summerville. (a suburb of Charleston)  You can view the news coverage of it here.

*Discovered a liking for beer.  Something I never imagined.  Except for Corona in my margarita!  ;)

*Connected with many more bloggers and made new friends.

*Mourned the lost of my best friend's mom who was also like a mother to me.

*Experienced domestic terrorism and on the flip-side, a unified and loving response to it. #CharlestonStrong

*I celebrated my birthday and my 1st Blogiversary.

*I really enjoyed myself! :)

How was your summer?  What interesting things did you do?

Charleston Strong

Sometimes educators need to let loose and let there hair down...so to speak.  We decided to go to Bottles and Brushes in Summerville, SC and participated in a painting party. Tonight's painting is of the famous Charleston Strong symbol in memory of the nine people who lost their lives in the Emanuel A.M.E Church shooting this summer.  The Emanuel 9 will forever be engraved in Charleston's history as one of the worst acts of domestic terrorism.  It affected so many of us in so many ways.  I spoke about it briefly, in my first Currently post, shortly after it occurred.  It was a time of sorry, but also a time of strength.  Charleston showed the world that love will conquer all.  We stand unified and we are Charleston Strong!

I don't want to go any further without acknowledging those who lost their lives in another senseless tragedy 14 years ago.  It is September 11, which is a day we pay homage to those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center.  God Bless!

August Via Instagram

The month of August was a busy one filled with celebrations and joy!  It was also a signal that summer was coming to an end.  Join me as I share with you all that I had to celebrate.

Be sure you follow @sunshine.and.elephants on Instagram to catch every moment.

1.  August arrived hot as ever, but that's what you expect this time of year.

2.  Local goodies I supplied as a Secret Santa to Kristen of Ready, Set Parenthood.  Loved this swap and loved representing Charleston!

3.  It was #NationalTwinDay and I couldn't pass up on showing my sons some love.  Read about them here and here.  They are the joys of my life!

4.  I met this beautifully, spirited lady first online through her blog and had the pleasure of meeting her in person a few weeks ago.  I'm so happy to be able to call Michelle of Grammie Time a friend.

5.  This is actually a picture of me on the coast of Morocco back in 2009.  This picture was used by Michelle to feature me in one of her many posts.  To learn more about me, you can read about it here from Michelle's Connect With Me series.

6.  Happy Birthday to Me!!  On August 10th, I celebrated my 44th birthday.

7 and 8: Celebrated my birthday at Irvin-House Vineyards and Firefly Distillery on Wadmalaw Island.  One of the twins was home to celebrate with me.  His brother was in NYC completing an internship.  Check out the post I shared here.

9.  A shout out to Google for celebrating with me! Thanks Google! :)

10. Back to school, and back to decorating my office.  This little space is my Be Yourself area where I display some of my personal paintings.  I added a little piece from Scripted Simplicity that fit right in with my space.  If you have never heard of them, please be sure to check out the link to see all of their beautiful pieces.

11.  Back to work convocation for Dorchester District 2.  This is how we begin each school year.

12.  After two weeks with over 1000 students, a few of us relaxed at our favorite Mexican restaurant for some happy hour specials!  Thanks Jose for the shots!

13 and 14:  The Angel Oak Tree is a beautiful sight to see.  Nestled on Johns Island, 30 minutes from downtown Charleston, this should be added to everyone's bucket list.  Free of charge and worth the visit.  You can read about my visit here.

15 and 16:  This month, I celebrated my 1st Blogiversary and I also hosted a giveaway!  The lucky winner was a college student who blogs over at  Serisblog.com.  Blogging has allowed me to share with you pieces of my quirky life.  Glad you have joined me and hope you are enjoying the ride.

Currently September

Currently...

Hi everyone and Hello September!  It's back to work time for me and I've been extremely busy.  Being a school counselor is no joke.  I'm hoping that my blogging will not have to take a back seat.

At the first of the month, I follow the prompts of Anne and Jenna  and I'm so glad you are joining me to see what I am currently up to.

Reading:  If this were not a prompt, I wouldn't have it here.  I wanted to say...You would be so proud of me, but unfortunately that is not the case.  I have stated many times that I never seem to have time for reading, and things don't seem to be changing.  I am going to make a conscious effort to pick up a book and read it.  However, I have been reading many blog posts on the internet and magazines.

Making: Wine!  Well sort of.  At least that's what I had plan to do. This past weekend some friends and I attempted to attend the annual Grape Stomping Festival at Irvin-House Vineyards.  Due to the overwhelming response, the fire marshall halted traffic and wouldn't allow anyone else in.  They had reached maximum capacity which has never happened.  Needless to say, we weren't very happy.  A couple of friends made it in and sent us pictures as we waited at the entrance.  How fun...NOT!

Pinning:  I am constantly pinning items that relate to the counseling profession.  Check out my Counseling Anyone board for more details. You won't be disappointed!

Anticipating: Another great year of blogging.  I am celebrating my 1st Blogiversary and I'm hosting a giveaway.  You should go check it out here.  (Update...giveaway has ended, but you can still check out the post!)

Loving:  My Amazon Fire TV Stick that I purchased on Prime Day (July 15).  I am able to catch up on movies and utilize my subscription to Netflix.
